About Gina Alem
Gina has a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 2005, Gina joined the SSI Design Group, an interior design co-op where she met her future business partner Melinda Bell Dickey. During this time she began a new phase in her career specializing in high end residential interior design, new home construction and model home interiors. In 2010 they created the partnership of Alem.Dickey Designed Interiors. As a result of her varied experiences, Gina has worked on several outstanding projects including area builders spec homes, high end residential interiors, not only in North Carolina but also in South Florida and New Jersey, and various design show houses. Her design abilities have been recognized by The Greensboro Builders Association, Visual Merchandising and Store Design Magazine, resulting in Gold and Silver awards in the Parade of Homes, and Department Store of the Year, and honorable mention Specialty Store of the Year.
About Melinda Bell Dickey
Melinda has worked as an Interior Designer for over twenty years and from 2004 to 2010 as one of the senior designers with Greensboro’s SSI Design Group. Her background extends from large commercial/ condominium projects to residential homes. Having lived throughout the United States and traveled extensively in Europe, her experience base provides an eye for design that is multi-faceted and multi-cultural. With expertise in all design media, Mel has a broad portfolio that includes residential remodels and new construction, furniture and cabinetry showrooms, commercial spaces, and several award-winning designer show homes.
Along with a degree in business administration, Mel studied design at the University of Houston, and after relocating to North Carolina, received her degree magna cum laude in Interior Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her design sensibilities center around the creation of beautiful living and working spaces for her clients. Knowing that design is not simply decorating a space was reflected in her choices of universities. She focused specifically on those challenging programs that combined a minor in architecture and a major in interior design. She brings to each project the critical combination of natural design talent and the necessary discipline of her training and education. Mel is also extraordinarily qualified in graphic design and presentation.
Mel has recently received the prestigious LEED AP accreditation for working in sustainable and "green" design. She was the interior designer for the first LEED certified house at Smith Mountain Lake, in Virginia. Mel is an allied member of ASID and an associate member of IIDA.
